About the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
Mission
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in the discharge of its mandate to promote the interests of Guyana within the international community, is committed to preserving the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and to contributing to the economic and social development of the Guyanese people. The Ministry is equally committed to promoting the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, maintaining active relationships with the Diplomatic Community, through skilled, dedicated diplomatic and administrative staff; and to ensuring effective utilisation of its financial and material resources.
Vision
As the principal initiator and coordinator of the formulation and implementation of Guyana’s Foreign Policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will actively promote, enhance and protect Guyana’s interests and image within the international community, through its efforts to effect the following:
- Preservation of Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
- Intensification of Guyana’s role as a proactive player in international affairs.
- Harnessing in a structured manner the skills, expertise, and other resources of the Guyanese Diaspora that can contribute to the country’s development.
- Promoting Guyana by encouraging tourism, investment...etc
- Enhancing the bilateral relations between Guyana and Qatar at both levels of the Government Sectors and Private Institutions.
- Strengthen the bilateral relations between Guyana and GCC Countries.
Vested with the authority to respond to administrative, financial, and other resource obligations, the ministry will be a key facilitator in Guyana’s efforts to achieve sustained economic development, thus significantly upgrading its contribution to the enrichment of the Guyanese people.

The Embassy
Ambassador Shadood in discussion with His Highness Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar
The relationship between Guyana and some countries in the Gulf has intensified and deepened to such an extent that within one year of ascending to Office a new Embassy was opened in Doha, Qatar.
The relations between Guyana and the region have grown beyond the opening of Embassies, the interaction between the leaders is no longer constrained by formal diplomatic protocol. Instead, these engagements are held in a very casual and friendly atmosphere even via whatsapp.
Qatar, has sent several delegations to Guyana recently and Guyana has reciprocated and there have also been several interactions at the level of the Head of States.
Following the swearing into Office of H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, on August 3rd, 2020, the first tranche congratulatory messages that that were received emanated from the Middle East Region viz Kuwait, Qatar, The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Thereafter a deliberate effort was initiated to expand and strengthen relations with the region emerged with His Excellency the President leading the charge.
